Choose oil
Today, there are many ways to finish parquet or veneer, ranging from varnishes to oils. Varnish is often chosen for its quick protection and ease of maintenance, but at Belgiqa, we consciously take a different approach.
Varnish forms a layer on top of the surface, sealing the wood and creating a film over the plank. We believe wood should be able to breathe. That’s why we work exclusively with oils that penetrate the wood rather than sealing it. This keeps every piece of wood alive, tangible, warm, and authentic.
Oil vs. varnish: maintenance and repair
One of the key differences between oil and varnish lies in maintenance and repair. An oiled parquet floor offers flexibility: minor damage can be repaired locally without treating the entire floor. In addition, the floor can easily be nourished over time with maintenance oil, allowing it to be refreshed multiple times while maintaining its appearance.
With a varnished floor, the situation is different. Varnish is more prone to visible scratches, and damage is difficult to repair locally. In practice, this often means the entire floor needs to be sanded and refinished, an intervention that can only be repeated a limited number of times.
